Open to any high school student in Canada, with preference given to Canadian citizens and/or permanent residents. The criteria for the awards include a minimum 80% average in their senior year of high school, demonstrating financial need, leadership qualities and a recognized initiative in funding their own education.

Application

To be considered, you must submit the following:

• Completed Harrison McCain Scholarship/Bursary Application form; and
• Recommendation letter from a principal, teacher, or counsellor, which must be on official letterhead and include their telephone number; and
• Recommendation letter from an employer, volunteer organization or an individual (non-family) who has known you for at least two (2) years with their telephone number; and
• Personal essay telling us what this scholarship would mean to you, which also outlines your extra-curricular, leadership, financial need, work experience and career plans (two-page limit, please)

Please send your completed application package to the Financial Aid & Awards Office by e-mail (financial.aid@smu.ca). The deadline for receipt of the completed application package is March 1. If the individual providing your recommendation letter(s) would prefer to submit the document directly to SMU, please have them send it to financial.aid@smu.ca, and ask them to include your full name and student ID (if known) in the body of the email.
