Introductory note
- Preference will be given to applicants entering Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, or Engineering programs.
- Applicants must identify as Black African Nova Scotian and have a demonstrated connection to one of the Historical African Nova Scotian Communities.
Who is eligible
- Must be a Black African Nova Scotian student.
- Must have attended a Nova Scotia P–12 school (public or private) located in Nova Scotia.
- Must be accepted into or enrolled full-time in one of the specified university programs.
Academic and documentation requirements
- Provide evidence of ongoing academic achievement by submitting an official academic transcript. Electronic/internet copies are not acceptable; only official paper transcripts will be accepted.
- First-time applicants must submit a typed personal essay (300 words) explaining your lived experience as a Black person and describing your connection to one of the Historical African Nova Scotian Communities.
- Include two letters of reference: one from a university professor and one character reference from a non-relative.
Additional conditions
- Applicants must reapply each year to be considered; the award may be granted for up to three consecutive years maximum.
- Applicants must not already hold a professional degree.
- Be willing to take part in school-to-work transition follow-up surveys if selected.
